Get hold of Dr.Louise Kaufman's Acid Reflux Diet book. She's an expert in this area.
Hi, anything bland unfortunately! Nothing acidic or spicy, no fried food, alcohol, fizzy drinks, tomatoes, chocolate, garlic, soft fruits (except bananas). It is a pretty miserable diet but you can soon adjust to it with other options. Best wishes.
I have tried cutting things out, but worked out that not everything causes me problems. Chocolate and Peppermint is more about them relaxing the sphincter above the stomach, allowing reflux to come up the throat, rather than acidic food.My silent reflux feels sort of under control now.,It can be a sort of trial and error. Obviously some have to be strict, but it is a bit of a boring diet.
I bought a great book by Dr Jonathan Aviv. I learnt that Pepsin from your stomach gets into your oesophagus where it should never be and can be activated by eating acidic foods. This can be detrimental to your oesophagus. It can also tavel to other areas of your body! I only eat foods with a pH above 5. It does rule out a lot of the foods I might have eaten previously, but I certainly don't consider my diet bland!!
It's a case of working out what you can have and not fretting over what you can't!
