Has anyone felt dizzy (fairly bad) coming off omeprozole. (20mg, tapered to 10 over a month. Stopped completely last Sunday)

Did you find anything that helped ? Thanks

hi Calamintha. I sympathise as am trying to come off esomeprazole- very similar pill. It was given me for silent reflux. I suffer from weird chest pressure and feeling in throat that I would not have thought was gastric but to my surprise has helped a bit but not enough so started taking it before evening meal but that gave me regurgitation! The thing it’s supposed to help prevent. So although was sleeping better I want to try without ( against cardiologist advice to double the dose!) . So have been cutting back but it feels like I will never get back to normal. I have had a few dizzy feelings and strange sensation in head if go two days without it so am now trying alternate days. I’ve also tried taking gaviscon at night- I’ve discovered it must be gaviscon advance though - the other stuff gave me indigestion pain! But I think the one thing that has helped more is liquorice DLG chewable tablets. Holland and Barrett and many places sell it. The fact that I feel so weird coming off the pills- worse than felt before took them - sort of convinced me it’s right to come off for me. But everyone is different and in the end may return to them. I see you posted this 8 days ago- sorry. Are you feeling better now? Good luck

Thanks. I am now just having issues when I burp or after some meals. I've started taking some enzymes by Holland And Barret which seem to help at meal times. I actually feel healthier in other ways so as you say, probably good to persevere with stopping it. I discovered Gaviscon and Rennie work in different ways, and Renne help me more than Gaviscon I am now only taking rennie about once a day, so clearly improving

it’s really good you are improving. I’m off the esomeprazole and have stopped having stomach ache and regurgitation in the evening. I’m back to coughing at night and strange chest feeling but am a lot better. I think mine is more lack of acid so have been taking cider vinegar. Of course I must still have some sort of reflux but my stomach is much happier! It shows we are all different and it’s only by experimenting we can find what’s right- especially when it is hard to get tested. Good luck

It’s known as rebound reflux…your stomach never stops making acid after ingestion of fatty foods…but the weird thing is it also affects the main vagus nerve which controls most of the internal organs..

Vagus nerve exercises may help as blood pressure and diaphragm become involved with sudden bouts of high acid rebound.

PPI’s need to be taken at least 30 minutes before food then activated by food… taking it just before eating causes a conflict and increases indigestion…

It may be better to try a weak solution of apple cider vinegar right before eating half a teaspoon in some warm water… then eat immediately.. you can still use a pip because that only works on the stomach’s acid making cells which often switch off if you eat or drink something acidic.Voila the LES should automatically close when ph rises and thereby stop reflux… Dr Eric Berg YouTube explains this phenomenon in more detail.

Most reflux issues are caused by low acid … there is a simple trst you can do at home…

In between meals take a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in warm water and swallow a mouthful.. then wait for the urge to burp… this should happen within three minutes.. immediate results show acid is high.. no reaction .. acid is low. Best wishes.
