My feeding tube

I had a feeding tube put into my stomach about 4 months ago to give my ulcer time to heal. I received no instructions no equipment was just sent home straight after surgery. The only nutrition I get is what I eat by mouth. I have lost down from 115 to 85 during this time. Seeing that the tube is just in my stomach it's not serving any purpose which I voiced to my Dr but he is refusing to take it out. He said I would die if he did... I don't understand that when it's not doing anything for me except leaking all the time from the incision.. what do you guys think of this and what should I do?

I'd suggest switching doctors! That's all inexcusable! You need nutrition and calories and training on how to use the feeding tube, as well as advice on the best diet to use with the feeding tube (canned liquids, or can you use a blender to make your own liquid diet?).

Hi phone the dietician at your hospital they will tell you ,demonstrate what to do. They shouldn’t of let you out without knowing. If you don’t know dietician phone the consultants secretary.

Best of luck

I have ajeg tube in which is going into my jejunum ,this was put in during a failed ivor lewis op .surgeon said itwas there incase my ng tube failed the jeg tube has not been used but i have to flush it twice a day ,i know they couldnt take jeg tube out straight away but would have to leave it in for 7/8 weeks until the stoma matured ,dont know if that is any help to you .if yu are not getting the required nutritional needs you need to get things sorted woth your tube

Regards Donna
