Hi Liz

I too have had problems with my nails. I have continual trouble with hangnails, I also get vertical ridges on my nails. In addition I also had to have a toenail removed because of deformed growth. I wonder whether it was the chemo that caused it because I didn't have any problems before. Incidentally I have no problems with my teeth. All I can suggest is to speak to your GP.

Kind Regards

I had similar problems last year caused by a poor diet. This was diagnosed by the GP via blood tests. I improved what I ate and also take Boots multi vitamin and mineral supplement specifically designed for slimmers. This has the most comprehensive range of vits/mins I can find on the shelves. It took several months to show improvement and I now have shares in my Dentists surgery :) but symptoms are greatly improved.

Best wishes,

Charlie.

Thanks I have an appt with the nurse next week. I was doing fine but over the past month or so my nails and teeth deteriorated noticeably. I will see if they can find me a good supplement. I shall have to ask for a share in the dentists surgery I have definitely invested enough :-)

Some people do have trouble with their teeth after chemotherapy. The advice is to have a good dental checkup before starting chemo, which I realise is advice which is not much use to you now. Stomach acid can be bad for the teeth / enamel. There is a thread on Food Tube Forum about this subject, and it might be worth checking out whether some kind of chemical imbalance might be contributing? There is also the issue of whether the condition might have been developing in parallel, as it were? forum.sosg.info

Hi Alan,

Thanks for answering . I did have regular 4 weekly cleans and checkups with my dentist during treatment as the oncologist and dentist suggested this. I am 2 years post treatment and as you say this may be unrelated, I just wondered if others had the the same problem. I am having some tests done but any info is helpful for my GP

Thanks Liz

You should be able to get Forceval multivitamin on prescription from your GP. Also although you may be getting enough calcium your body needs vitamin D to absurd calcium and it is possible you are not getting enough of this or that your levels are low - your GP can check this and I would also ask that he/she checks your PTH (parathyroid hormone) level at the same time as the 2 work together.
