hi..have you had this checked out by your surgeon or any of the cancer team..I lost my voice over 18 months ago..or almost a whisper,I was told by my doctor that it was almost a defiantly a viral infection. But with a 6 month check up with my surgeon,it was decided a CT scan would be advisable..

3 later I was called back and told my cancer had returned to the same place and now inoperable..and a lymph node was pressing down on my vegas nerve.i have gone thro various chemo and radiotherapy,th which they said it may have freed it but to no avail.

I have since had vocal coach lessons but still nothing, there is a minor op available where a ‘filler’ is injected into the paralysed vocal chord to bring it central (why the voice is weak),but I have also learned this is temporary and may need re doing..I do or did a lot of hill walking and makes my breathing difficult and this op may make it worse,so I’ve carried on as I was..

I put this on here originally about my voice, and a guy who is stage 4,warned me it may be a warning sign as it was for him..I don’t want to alarm you,but best get it checked out as soon as possible..

Good luck, sorry my ‘English’ isn’t the best but here if you need anything help, kind regards Marc

Hi I have posted a reply regarding voice loss which you may have seen, however I just wanted to pick up on your comment re breathlessness which is something I often experience and have found that in the past mine is always worse when my iron (ferratin) levels are low and need tablets to boost it. Currently undergoing treatment as blood tests showed my levels to be 23 against a range of 30 to 400 as the norm!!

Hi I had my Ivor Lewis op at the end of 2017 and about a year ago started loosing my voice. It can happen without warning and can last anything between 1 and 6 days. Sometimes it happens weekly other times I'm okay for a week or two then it occurs again. Scans, endoscopies and nasal cameras have all shown that apart from chronic inflammation all is well. I have tested positive for silent reflux and this has been my diagnosis with treatment being continuation of PPI's and Acidex advance (a form of Gaviscon) as required as a top up. This however does not really resolve the problem. I have tried food diaries to see if any particular thing triggers it but nothing has shown up. I am left with the difficulties and frustrations this problem causes and have basically been told " it's something you will have to live with" so I would be interested in any other feedback available as I was unaware of this being a pre-cursor to the return of the cancer.

Following my oesophagectomy in November I had difficulty talking. My voice tapered off towards the end of sentences and sounded hoarse. I was referred to ENT and an endoscopy showed one side of the vocal cord was paralysed and wasn't joining the other side. I have been seeing a speech therapist and there has been a gradual improvement.

I frequently become hoarse after eating but my voice comes back to normal after a while. I have always assumed it’s something to do with the digestive process.
