I’m Type 1 and have Oesophageal Motility Disorder. I eat whatever doesn’t stick in my throat, and diabetes has to come 2nd. I usually wait until I’ve eaten, and then work out how much insulin I need, just in case I can’t manage it all. I’ve lost my sense of taste because of acid reflux, so I get no enjoyment from it! Sometimes snacking eases the tummy pain for a while, and if necessary I have a small amount of insulin. Sounds miserable, but I just have to get on with it!

Hi there!

Sotty to hear that you have problems with acid reflux. What medication do you use to mange this?

I have problems with acid also. I was managing it well previously but it has gone to pot quite lately.

Hi Cosmobabe

Tablets don’t work for me now, so I just have Peptac liquid before bed, and usually another dose about 4 hours after. If I have a coughing fit when I’m out I have a couple of Gaviscon chewable tablets, and within a minute the cough disappears. The Gastroenterologist hasn’t offered any solution for the pain and nausea, so I assume there’s no help available!

Hi there!

I take LANSOPRAZOLE 30mg twice a day and if I have a coughing fit or have spices in my lungs and ears I guzzle peptac liquid and milk. Sometimes I need to make myself sick so I can clear out my lungs etc.

I have resorted to sleeping upright and not eating spicy foods by 4pm.

I sometimes get acid reflux when my stomach is empty too - this happens even when I don't feel hungry. Therefore, I need eat couple spoonfuls of rice krispies in the morning to settle my stomach till I feel I can eat breakfast.

Its all never ending. Its one thing after another.

But I feel I have been given a second chane in life so i am persevering as best I can.

Ps - I hate Peptac Liquid.

Take care

hi Molly - I got told a few years ago that I was borderline diabetic so I just eat lots of snacks throughout the day and if I take any dizzy spells load up on jelly tots and sit down for a bit - I try and stay as far away from doctors and tablets as possible - to be fair my doctor said to manage like that for as long as poss - I don’t really think about it now to be honest and don’t do any testing - all the best

well, I was told I was pre diabetic 2 years ago and sent on a diabetes awarness course, on line. When I followed the rules I began losing weight which I dont have to lose. A Gp told me not to worry too much. After 1year I was just back into the ok range. Over this year I have been having increasing dumping and or hot flushes ( though I really should be too old for them. I consulted gp after a bad session when I was in charge of grand children. Was advise to get a monitor and check blood glucose levels. It's never as high as what the kit says is normal. Should have had bloods done last week for sugar, thyroid etc but was cancelled. Fingers crossed for this Weds. It seems to me that in at least some cases, our systems just dont cope with the loss of a section of digestive tubes and, whatever we eat or dont, its never right. A gp actually agreed with me that there become too many conflicting diet needs to comply with. I have ibs and high cholesteral as well plus arthritis and osteoporosis. Sounds like you are doing ok managing the situation day to day as am I. Did have to explain to children not to worry, just a funny turn, then stuffed myself with dextrose. Good luck
