Tips to help you eat

Hi All,

Thought I would start a post on what we all do to get those extra calories in. For me, having a hot drink 15 mins before I eat helps clear a path for my meal. The second tip is that I have a banana each day, which slows down the rate at which other foods travel along my digestive system, thus minimising both early and late dumping.

Have you any tips to share?

Thanks,

Jay

Thanks for sharing. I’ll try both. I don’t have much to share other than drink say 30 min before you eat to avoid getting too full from eating and drinking together, and go for foods with good fats to bump calories if looking to increase weight.

Other than for tea and coffee I have used whole milk for 17 years. Every little helps.

Nuts!! I find nuts & seeds are good as they have high calorific density. Also add butter or olive oil, cheese or cream to meals depending what is appropriate & look at energy per 100g of any ready meals & go for the highest if there is a choice. I tend to avoid liquids for at least half an hour before a meal as otherwise feel full. Hope this might help.

I make delicious protein balls, approx 125-150 kcal per ball. All natural ingredints, no powders. For dessert I make strawberry fat bombs. What could be better than frozen cream cheese and strawberries, no added sugar so no dumping with these treats.

For me it's double-cream Greek-style yoghurt, sweetened with a spoonful of honey or diabetic jam. I have also found hummus good (I make my own). I eat it on toast.

When I was still having chemo, homemade vegetable soup was my saviour.

I was having a banana a day but only alternate days now as I was told it could be one cause of high blood sugar which I did have. Must admit though that one year on the change in blood sugar was minimal

My husband seemed to tolerate fruits and veggies smoothies made with a concoction of coconut water (for electrolyte)/high protein sustagen, lactose free full cream milk with chia seeds/high protein yoghurt (for protein), mixed frozen berries, banana, mango, avocado and kale/carrot/celery.

I vary the mix just to make the taste interesting. I freeze the fruits and veggies or buy frozen fruits if they are not in season.

Days when he has difficulty swallowing smoothies are a good alternate food.
