Acid reflux

My partner 6 weeks post op and went once to hospital with bad chest infection and foot infection. Now few times he struggled to stop coughing up with acid and it makes him struggle to breath. Any advice or experience in this matter? He is eating now and had few episodes of dumping but the acid coming up to his lungs seems to be a big risk for his recovery.

Try sleeping with a reflux pillow which will raise your upper body at night. Following further surgery earlier this year I started suffering from more reflux. I already sleep with a reflux pillow but have started eating very light meal in the evening and nothing after 7pm I still reflux slightly on odd occasions but is now much better.

Hi. Yes he has two special pillows to raise up and last meal usually happens at 6,30 pm . Thank you for your reply.

If he is only six weeks post surgery, he should speak to his medical team at the hospital for advice. Is he taking PPI medication (eg. omeprazole)? If so, he may need to increase the dose.

Hi. He has tablet for acid and not sure the dose and will check it. Last time he went hospital for his bad chest infection put him back to zero in terms of recovery because whole two days they did nothing. Meanwhile all his medications were not given on time or just was a shamble. The gp and specialist nurse says go to hospital whenever he has issues. I did not realise I was whinging lots. However, I am hopeful reading other people's story and it will get better.

Thank you for your reply.
