Hi,
Its perfectly normal. As part of new normal. Physical fatigue with IL survivors is very real.
Having said that B12 deficiency can also cause excessive fatigue and lethargy than her normal.
I am 2.5 years post my IL oesophagectomy, still get exhausted after physical work. Doing lots of DIY but taking breaks of couple of days in between to recover.
Most if not all survivors of oesophagectomy sustain NEW NORMAL. there maybe improvements on the new normal but pre surgery fitness is not possible for everybody.
Its unfortunate new normal but collateral damage for staying alive.
Hi,
This is definitely normal. I am just over two years post IL and get a lot more tired than I used to before. I also get very achy if I do too much . You manage things on a day to day basis. If you feel tired take some rest and time to recover. I find no two days are the same but you get used to the signs of tiredness so know when to stop.
Best wishes

I am 10 years on and still manage my energy, she is doing well if she is cutting grass and resting. It’s the way it works. You learn to recognise when it’s time to stop and rest. I liken myself to a Duracell bunny when the energy runs out, I stop just where I am. It changes but you learn to manage it.
Hi I am 7 years since my Ivor Lewis op and the same as everyone else on this page tiredness can get to you but go with it and rest up now and again, also take care with sugar as that has other reasons such hipper glycemic , it’s a hard road but so worth it , take care .

Hi Cal
If your mom is on PPI’s, she is likely to be low in magnesium, as PPI’s inhibit the absorption of magnesium in the gut. My wife, who had the IL op, takes magnesium spray, which is easily absorbed through the skin, 10 sprays on each thigh a day (can purchase from Amazon). Magnesium is an essential element in the energy cycle. Give it a try, very safe. My wife has quite good energy levels, six years after op.
Good luck
Steve
No. See my old posts that explain more.
Going on my husbands progress I would say this is completely normal. This is one of the biggest operations anyone can go through , the body has so much healing to do. Cutting the grass can be exhausting & when my OH does it , he feels he’s achieved something! Lots of rests / sit downs in between. 👍
Getting use to a new normal is difficult to understand, but given time you begin to accept it and learn to adapt to it. Watching somebody adapt to it is going to be worrying and difficult. Sudden tiredness and other side affects are all part of it. Was it all worth it, well I have had another 26 yrs of life post surgery, so travel with hope sounds like it is going well so far. Remember you need to look after yourself as well. Take care sally
Hi yes I am just over 4years post op.still have waves of tiredness. I get my bloods done every 3mths. I take a multivitamin with probiotics. Yes take care with sugar Dumping can make you tierd. I carry dextrose for that.
Best wishes

Yes , going on for 3 year since my op. Still have to pace myself and some days just accept my body needs a day off
