I had my op 11 months ago . The last week I feel like food is getting stuck in my throat . I went for a stretch 6 months ago but told it wasn't necessary. The strange thing is if I get up and move around it seems to shift it. I burp a lot has anyone else had this ?

Food getting stuck
Yes I do. Will have a bad phase of it and then eases up. I often have a feeling that there is a bubble of air and nothing can get past it. Shifting position does help. Back extension opens it up. I’ve also been diagnosed with a very dry mouth and throat and was told by the consultant that sipping water eating pineapple and using gaviscon more would help. Which it does though usually to full up to eat the pineapple!
Thanks for your reply that's exactly what it feels like it's like air that's trapped I tried gaviscon yesterday and it's helped i.m seeing my consultant today for a check up so i.ll see what he says. I.ve also been told I have some back fractures I haven't seen anyone yet i.m waiting for an appointment. I.ve read that lansaprozole i.ve been on it 2 years 30mg twice a day can cause fractures I also had radiotherapy which could have also caused them anyone else had this happen to them.
My op was in October 2018 here in South Africa, I've had two stretches since, January and May 2019. On both occasions food (meat) was completely stuck and not even liquid would go down, on one occasion it was 36 hours before it cleared. If you haven't had a complete blockage you may well not need a stretch. I still get blockages if I'm not super careful but it always comes back up or goes down very quickly now. All my own fault when it happens. I'm reluctant to go for another stretch as all the scar tissue should have settled now and it's up to me to adapt to the new life. It's the consequence of being alive so we'll all learn to cope with it, I'm sure.
Thanks for your reply yes i.ve noticed when I eat meat it sometimes get stuck and i.m constantly burping to try to relieve it.
That’s very interesting about your back. I teach pilates and am very aware of osteoporosis and the consequent fractures. Lansoprazole can reduce bone density. In my opinion based on a being a pilates teachers with an oesophagectomy a slightly bent forward upper spine does make acid reflux and the “air bubble “ worse so changing position and being more upright does help. If you are diagnosed with osteoporosis which is very common in women as we go past the menopause Exercise is a huge help. There are some things to avoid but none strengthening is a must! Plus your clothes look so much better! I also think that the illness and treatment cause so much muscle loss and muscle weakness. It’s hard work but this months I’ve got to four years since the surgery. I really am one lucky(bit grumpy) woman. Suzyx
Bone not none strengthening!
Thanks for your reply i.m waiting to see an orthopedic doctor . I think because your not fit and can't do very much after the op the muscles become weak I used to do a lot of walking but I can't walk very far now because of the pain I don't know if it's better to rest it or exercise it do you think Pilates would help .
Luckily Ive only got narrow oesoph due to acid burning. Reflux stopped .. had op .. but i get blocking. Invariably .. at least 90% ..blocks are caused by meat and..or bread. And lets all guess what my favourite foods are.
Gotta eat slower .. chew more .. sipping fizzy water with food or still water can help too or better still avoid them. Also i find freshness of food a factor .. fresher it is the easier it goes down. Good health all. G
Make SURE that all your food is blended with a hand blender, and eat VERY slowly. Take an hour to eat even a small meal! And, do this for the rest of your life.
