Hi! What are your symptoms and why have you been taking Lansoprazole for such a long time? Do you have hiatus hernia? I think that you should check your upper abdomen with an ultrasound and talk to your gastrenterologist again.
I was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammation of the Stomache
After having Camera
I have been taking this medication for around 8/10 years now
2 .30 mg a day
It has always worked for me up until last 3/4 weeks but my heartburn and acid seems back with a vengeance
I have read about Lansoprasole and it says "" Lansoprasole suppresses the acid "" if that's the case, where does the acid go or have I got the wrong idea
I also read Lansoprasole is to be taken short term like anti-biotics ????????
I feel like I'm piling weight on but not through eating
I also take Venlafaxine 225 and Venlafaxine 75 plus Mitrazipine 30 mg
I have a lot of upset in last 12 month but the depression I live with has been prob from a very young age
I was also born with meningitis and just recently finding out certain things connected to the outcome
Thanks for replying
I'm just worried as I had a cancer scare few yes ago which ended up 2 ops on my throat
Hi there. Where did you read that Lanzoprozole should be taken on a short term basis? My mum was prescribed this medication for GERD in 2007. She died of Oesophagal cancer that had metasisized 6 weeks ago. She died 3 weeks after diagnosis. We think that the Lansoprozole masked the symptoms. We are trying to find out how long you should be on the medication and how it should be monitored by a GP. if anyone can help with this info that would be much appreciated. We never want anyone else to suffer in the way that our poor Mum did
Lansoprazole suppresses the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It means that you produce much less acid than you would normally. These meds should be taken for several weeks to 6 months at most, it depends on the problem, because they have some side effects. It's easy to say in theory of course, because when you are in pain, you want to find relief. I think you should repeat your gastroscopy, colonoscopy, perform an ultrasound of the abdomen and do some blood tests. Don't be scared, prazoles tend to stop working sometimes or you can have gallbladder problem, there are many benign possibilities.
Been on 80mg for 22 years . I found when I got the generic drug eg cheaper version did not work as well. so did the manufacturer change? You should talk to GP and a referral to consultant again. Good Luck
