My wife has a pharyngeal pouch and the "down the throat" stapling operation has failed. While we wait for the full "in through the side" operation (after 2 months we have been told it will be at least another 2 months before we even get a date) she has significant trouble with choking, especially when lying horizontally trying to sleep. Does anyone know of a method, perhaps a mouth spray or pills, that will reduce her saliva production? Something to take before bedtime, with a rapid, but short term effect would be perfect, but anything will be better than the current situation, even if she has to take a saliva replacement with every meal. The saliva reduction drugs and techniques I've seen are mostly about stopping people drooling after disability, stroke, etc. and some seem to involve unpleasant, rather extreme drugs. I hope that this is a problem that has been addressed by the Oesophageal Community before. Any advice would be most helpful. In my wife's case, this is a daily problem that needs immediate addressing. We would like to approach our healthcare professionals with at least a little understanding of what solutions there might be.
Thanks, Howard.
