Hi, just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this please. My husband had Ivor Lewis op 10 months ago and for the last 5-6 months he had been getting very hot and itchy feet. He says it feels like they are sunburnt with occasional stabbing sensation like a pin bring put through your foot! This is mainly the soles of his feet. Also occasionally this happens to his hands also. Has anyone else ever had this as didn’t know if this was connected in any way and just another symptom to get used to! Many thanks.

Itchy feet?
Hi sounds like peripheral neuropathy to do with nerves in the body sometimes damaged by chemotherapy or op. I’m not medical but I know people that suffer from this after chemo.
Best wishes
Debbie
Thank you. He is in for another stretch this Thursday so will speak to the doctors then. He did have a lot of chemo before op so didn’t think of that. Thanks for your response x
Yes sounds like peripheral neuropathy. But I'm not sure if there would be an association 10 months post chemo. Vitamin B12 deficiency can be common following gastrectomy and a cause of peripheral neuropathy irrespective of chemo history. It has a gradual onset. If he hasn't already done so, think about taking Vitamin B12 1mg once a day - this has been shown to be as effective as injections - need to keep it up for 6 months plus to see any effect. Also it might be worth checking out blood sugar (HbA1c) to rule out diabetes.
Good luck
Dave
Thanks Dave will get him to GP also I think. Best wishes
I had E.O.X chemo and had pins and needles in my hands, still there after almost a year after my op, I recon it will be this that's causing it.

Its neuropathy cured with vitamin B12, cos I had it but they weren't itchy they were bloody painful. When explaining it to the doctor I told him, it feels like walking with bare feet over the shingle on the beach at the seaside. btw the Vitamin B12 clears it up really quickly.
