Hello again,

So a letter from the surgeon came today with the above on. Obviously I was straight onto Google and am now full of fear, does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks,

Vikki

Hi Vikki

I haven’t heard of that phrase - I had an adenocarcinoma - I was 48yr - very fit and healthy when diagnosed - it was an utter shock!

I wrote a little piece called ‘my journey’ - if you type that into the search bar it should come up.

I know it’s a shock for you and your husband but hang in there!!!!!

All the very best

Thanks Molly14, I probably need to stop looking on the internet and speak to a doctor. I will read your journey, thank you. x

Hi Sparky. I had the same biopsy result on November 2017. I freaked out when I read that the signet ring type was a rare aggressive form. I had the Flot chemo them Ivor Lewis then Flor chemo then chemo radiation as there was some local spread found after the surgery was done. Having had all of that, one met was found in the brain which was treated with cyber knife. I know that I have had this met for a few years because I have had visual disturbances for quite a few years and it just got worse recently that’s why the met was found. So the point I am making is that 16 Months after diagnosis I may now be at a point where there is no disease. I didn’t have ‘aggressive soread’ despite having the signet ring cell type. Although I did need more treatment than the average patient.

Reading up about it on the internet is always just statisitics and doesn’t mean it wil happen to you.

Good luck, I know how you feel.

Paul.

Hi, I did freak out and have now managed to speak to a nurse. She has confirmed it does mean it's aggressive so still extremely worried but there's not much we can do but get on with It. He starts treatment soon thank goodness!

Thanks for your reply and I'm pleased to hear you are disease free - although sounds like it's been a hard journey for you! Take care,

Vikki

Hi Vikki, Your question instantly took me back to the moment I Goggled the pathology report. It reads “Invasive adenocarcinoma with both well-differentiated to poorly differentiated with signet ring features.” I also found “aggressive”and “difficult to detect” as well as “reduced lifespan.”

The oncologist was more encouraging saying the generalized nature of a study cannot account for individual strengths or weaknesses.

I have a long time friend that became an oncologist. His comment was to the skills of the surgeon, Chemo and radiation. I am part of a study so my radiation treatment was post surgery.

Two years later I am still NED and enjoying life!

I pray for your long and and happy future.

Jeff
