I hope this post will be of help to those just returned home from the op.

My first week home I found I was getting up, eating, then sleeping in the chair, snack mid morning, doze till lunch time and after lunch went to bed for at least an hour, snack, then walked a little and had another snack etc etc.

Having seemed to progress quite quickly in hospital I believed I was making very slow progress to recovery.

I was so wrong, progress to recovery is slow but is progress, I am now down to 1 sleep a day, a few days ago I started to have a 1/2 hr ride on my trike, I now go food shopping with my wife and am getting to a few jobs around our house and this last week went out for a meal with 2 friends, OK I had an empty plate and had a little of my wife's meal, but I had been very nervous of eating out, however the O.P.A. card explaining my small appetite worked and tonight we are out to celebrate our grand daughter's 20th birthday at Pizza restaurant.

I know I have a long way to go, dumping is still a problem as well as explosive wind problems, but yesterday when I saw both the Registrar and Dietitian at the Queen Alexandra in Portsmouth they were both very pleased and were very positive that my progress was good, not to get concerned but to continue as I was.

So don't get down, progress is slow but is still progress. My wife and I are going to the O.P.A. meeting at the Queen Alexandra next Saturday and will meet others and listen to advice from others and staff there.

Best wishes to all

Jeff

Progress is slow but as you say progress is progress and the starting point is right back at the beginning again a bit like a baby as your digestion relearn S and recovers before your body can start the regaining of strength etc 8 years on I still get dumping and occasional hiccups mostly self inflicted as I eat too much or too many carbs at one go but hey who didn't get a hangover once in a while. Life is good xx
