Hi people my mum had her operation around 7 weeks ago and feels sick most days not always sick but feels it ... Is it normal to feel like this after this operation or maybe is the chemo still from before the operation ?
Sickness : Hi people my mum had her... - Oesophageal & Gas...
Sickness
I was lucky if i was awake for about 3 hours a day at that stage, I was in hospital for about 2 months as I had very serious complications from my total esophagectomy - it does take time. My surgery was early in 2007 (I had chemo first) - it does vary from person to person but it does take time to get over this and get used to the new changing normal. It takes time, Best wishes.
Try gin gins ginger candy. It gave me comfort.
Hi yes think it is pretty normal in early days. I also used Gin gins from Holland and Barrett. A little walk after eating ,even round the garden helps . Is she still on medication like strong painkillers? The dr can prescribe something. I remember feeling this way and still had chemo to face.
Good Luck
Debbie
I felt sick quite often after eating even now 10 years later I am restricted what i can eat..milk makes me feel sick..cakes..hope your mum feels better soon
I think I would contact the specialist nurse to arrange a discussion / appointment. It may be that medication might help the nausea; or it could be that food is blocking back from the pyloric sphincter, the valve at the bottom of the stomach, and it might need a very straightforward 'stretch' with an endoscopy to improve things.
I agree with Alan that you should have a discussion with the specialist nurse. However I found in the early days peppermint tea helped with nausea and even now 9 years after my op I always have mints (polos) in my pocket to help with occasional mild nausea.
My husband had IL in mid March 2018 & felt sick, throwing up several times a day even though dr said “everything surgery related was ok”. It took 10 weeks for him to feel a bit better and he took meds Compazine or Zofran daily during those early weeks. Sucking on mints helped too. He still feels nauseous at times from some foods or eating more than he should...still figuring that out. Good luck to mom & you!
Hope his weight is healthy and stabilised by now?
He has lost about 50 lbs and fortunately is now at a healthy weight although I’m afraid he’s continuing to lose and will get too thin if he loses much more. His routine is healthy though and he’s eating okay just small portions. Hoping it stabilizes soon.
If he eats well enough, even though small portions the weight should be stabilised by now; unless offcourse throwing up is more than frequent.
I believe he had had his Jej tube removed by now, if yes that's assuring to understand that the Drs were happy with his weight etc.
Daily measurement of weight (same time of the day everyday) will give you clear picture of weight stability.
Positive thing in your husbands case is he managed to gain healthy weight without exercise. I wish if I could lose a stone, especially around belly!!
