Bile reflux is alkali; PPIs stop acid being generated. So in theory at least, reducing one of them should increase the other as it can be a chemical balance. But it might be possible for two sources of reflux, one alkali, one acid, to be generated at the same time. There might feasibly be some variations according to precisely which PPI you have been taking.

If it has reduced bile reflux as well, that is good news, but it might take a specialist to work out why - and there would be a question as to whether it might have been bile reflux all along, with the PPIs actually making it worse? So then stopping the PPIs might have a beneficial effect on the bile acid?

But do take all this with a large pinch of salt - it is compete unqualified speculation!

When I mentioned this type of reflux to the specialist he said how do you know it is bile, well put it this way I certainly know what acid reflux is after a lifetime of it and the reflux I get now is like someone creeping up with a chemical weapon while I'm sleeping which is a hundred times worse than what I know as acid, I do realise there are all sorts of chemicals in the digestive system

You can have a breath test to establish the issue. My personal view is that bile tastes really FOUL.

Alan on the topic of acid reflux pre op and bike reflux post op, in my personal experience pre on is very acidic and turned teeth yellow. Bike reflux is Not so much acidic but very foul taste.

Unless the person has experienced acid reflux pre op on nu.erous occasions it will be difficult for relative comparison between both refluxes.

Thanks. You are right about reflux affecting tooth enamel.

Exactly enamel yellowing and deteriorating. Weird and disappointing fact was when some Drs did not acknowledge when I said that's due to acid reflux( no tobacco or alcohol use at all). Sad but my personal experience.

Apologies for going off track the original thread.

You are not alone! It's one of the reasons why we also include dental surgeries in the Awareness campaign re reflux.
