Experience requesting a blue badge

Hi all,

I had an Ivor Lewis approx 3 years ago and, like many of you continue to experience significant pain in my right rib cage and shoulder blade.

On a good day I’d give this pain/discomfort a score of 3/10 on a bad day it’s near debilitating.

On a bad day I struggle to use public transport and walking to the bus/tube is a daunting prospect.

I’m wondering if any of you have any experience in requesting a blue badge and/or disabled Parking bay outside their house to facilitate easier transportation ?

Regards

Pete

Hi, my husband is just over 3 months post op. When he was having his pre-op chemo (Edinburgh Cancer Centre) we were given a lot of good advice from the MacMillan support team in the hospital, and were advised to apply for a blue badge to help my husband during the post-op stage . We got a letter from one of the medical staff backing up his application and his badge arrived the day he got out of hospital . It's a temporary badge for a year but we're finding it invaluable, allowing us to park in disabled spaces at the hospital, GP surgery, shops, everywhere. It was just a case of finding which local office to apply to, we filled out the appropriate form backed up by the medic letter and paid £20. Worth every penny. Hope this is helpful.

I like you had the Ivor Lewis 3 years ago and also still suffer from mild to server pain. Although it doesn't answer your question on Blue badges, non in Thailand. There are a few things you can do to help manage the pain. I practice Judo a lot and usually the pain is worse the next day but after than I seem to improve, so it may help to do some light exercise. Secondly, I use a compression vest which I wear and I find this help a lot. You can get this vest from any sports store or from Amazon. Best wishes to you. Nigel

Hi

My husband had IL operation 6 months ago along with pre and post op chemotherapy. He has applied for and been granted a blue badge. We took the application form to the council along with copies of some of his letters from the hospital confirming diagnosis and treatment. The council lady was very helpful and the badge was granted. We had to pay (I think) £10 for it. The important thing seemed to be the supporting documents.
