Soft food diet

Hi all please forgive if this has been posted before.

I have been struggling with my new soft mush puree diet , due to a untreatable compressed oesophagus . Soup was becoming tedious and everything seemed to look and taste like baby food .

I am grateful to be able to eat,and have found a way to eat quite a few foods , but sitting down to enjoy a meal seemed to have become pointless and it was just a case of having nutrition. I had lost interest in food.

Then I remembered the slow cooker . I bought a really small one and made casseroles and curries , the smell of it cooking in the background seemed to stimulate my appetite and I found I was actually looking forward to the meal. The main thing is the food keeps it's shape in the gravy and melts in the mouth.it's quick cheap cooking too 😊

Now I can sit down to a proper looking meal we can share , I pop a couple of dumplings on the top of the casserole for my hubbie. On good days I can manage a little of those too .

I don't eat meat but I used to do mince in it for the family when they were at home and it was very tender .

It's lovely to feel like we are sharing a meal again and meal times have become about the food and relaxing ( so vital !) Round a table again .

Perhaps this may help other people or carers trying to tempt there loved ones to eat .

Good health ....feebs

That's a very interesting possibility for many. I wonder whether we can think about advice along these lines on the OPA website. Thanks. Haward
