Heartburn is when acid rises from the stomach, up the esophagus and into the back of your throat. It causes a burning sensation in the middle of your chest up to your throat.

When the acid from your stomach refluxes upwards, the acid causes heartburn, a pain in your chest area, and it may also cause the burning sensation in your throat. So they are two different pains that might have the same cause.
