Soylent

I've just watched a short video on iplayer, about a drink called Soylent.

It was invented in America, and contains everything a person needs, we'd never need to eat again. It could help some people.

But I wonder if it causes dumping?

It may help but I think it's worth trying and retrying all manner of foods: what caused dumping last week need not necessarily precipitate it today. Soylent offers a way of ramming some nutrition in, but sounds pretty joyless. After what has happened to us, we should look for some delight. I for one would risk dumping to taste asparagus with butter and lemon, chocolate mousse, a ripe Chaource cheese... This was the advice given by my nutritionist before I left hospital. I think it's sound.

My dumping seems to be random. One day muesli for breakfast is just fine. Same the next day and so on. Then, for no apparent reason..... I have just decided to eat more or less eat what I like when I like and hope that my system will retune. On occasion I crash out and then my system empties out, but that happens around every ten days. I think that leftovers or out of date stuff or stinking cheese might be one cause. I can't resist a good stinking cheese! H

I'm hoping someone else will try it first!

This may sound like a miracle drink, but our bodies need all the things we get in regular food to function properly. I do wonder if its a bit like the TPN I was given in hospital that has all the vitamins and minerals we need daily and I felt great while it was being pumped into me through a vein in my neck, but my surgeon said 10 days was the max he wanted me to be on it. This drink may be of help after surgery when we are beginning to find our appetite again, but even with the dumping I enjoy the pleasure of food 😊

Have you watched the film Soylent green? If not watch this first before eating anything called Soylent lol

I haven't seen the film, but I read the book many years ago. Yuk. (But as I'm veggie, it seems only slightly more yukky than what I see around me all the time.)

I'd have to check what goes into the new Soylent before I try it!
