Hi .. I just wondered if anyone can share any of my concerns , I had my Ivor Lewis operation 15mths ago, and i am well most days but have all the issues that 'we' seem to suffer with. My concern at the moment is my rib on the right side , is very tight and when i eat it feels like its be squeezed and very uncomfortable, eating is making this worse and losing weight, would be grateful for any answers anyone may have.. wishing everyone well on this long journey.

Hi ...
I suspect that it is simply the ribs reacting to recent exertion / exercise perhaps? It might be worth seeing a physiotherapist, but if it bothers you, I would ask to get checked over, because sometimes we feel the pain in a different place from where the problem is.
Hi Moule,
Is your "shark bite" scar on your right? Where the discomfort is? We all seem to get aching ribs in that area.
And when we eat everything aches! And losing weight is normal for us.
I wish I could suggest something to help, but the only thing that helps me is a visit to my kind GP. Even if she only tells me it's "just one of those things" it makes me feel better.
I hope you find a solution to your problem. It's not easy being "one of us".
Hi
I am two years post op, and my ribs still feel tight, especially during and after either exercise of food. Speaking to others within our support group it seems fairly normal and most "know it's there" too some degree.
Heavy exercise also gives me back ache.............. it just seems that it part of the new us that we need to get use to.
Hi moule. I have the same. My rib, at the sharkbite, feels tight. Sometimes that's after eating, sometimes it's during exercise. It doesn’t seem to stop me doing anything and is an ache rather than a warning pain. I heard John Whiting explain that during the operation he has to get his "size 8" hands between the ribs so he says some permanent residue of that work is inescapable. I didn't need to know that - useful as it was!
