Hi Margie
I take Omeprazole which is a PPI the same as your Lansoprazole.
I take 20mg at night and 10mg in the morning. This works well for me. Talk to your GP about trying this dosage. It may be the way forward too
Best wishes

The timing of PPIs (such as lansoprazole or omeprazole) isn't crucial. It is recommended they are taken 30 minutes before food so they are moved to the duodenum before they dissolve. (They are enteric coated to prevent them dissolving in the stomach). Morning is recommended purely as it is easier for it to become a habit to take it at the same time every day.
If you have recently changed the time of day you take them, it may take a few days for your system to adjust. PPIs are not instantaneous drugs and gain effectiveness over a few days.
If you continue to get nighttime problems, some patients supplement with H2 blockers (eg Ranitidine) at night or you may need to increase the dose of lansoprazole temprorarily.
But do discuss the options with your GP.
I take oral dispersable lanzoprozole, it works better for me than tablets or capsules, I did take a dose morning and evening I am trying to cut it down slowly to just the night time one again.
Cheers lizzy
I had the same reaction when I swapped to lansoprazole from omeprazole but like Chrisrob said above these take time to settle in and by the end of the first week all my problems had gone and I've not had a problem since - keep taking the gaviscon if you need it and try and perservere. Good luck
I am now 12 years post op but still remember how bad my acid was after chemo and op, my GP tried all types of acid blockers but none worked, on my first visit back to the hospital they sorted this by putting me on nexium which they said was the top one but expensive. I still take a 40 mg tablet each morning, N.I.C.E will try and change these for a cheaper one but my GP as insisted I still get them, hope this helps you.
Try one in the evening before bedtime. You can get soluble type too which suit me better !
Hi Margie1, Im now 18 months post ivor lewis and i have been taking 1X 30 mgs omeprazole/Lansoprazole mornings and evenings for the past 10 months and have found a great benefit from them i have a good night sleep now hope you get sorted soon x
Hey everyone, my stomach has been terrible for over 5 weeks now, I don't seem able to digest anything, every time I eat I feel ok at first - just lots of gas in the stomach - but about two hours later the burning starts together with a sense of having a "weight" on my stomach. I can't sleep at night, and in the morning my bowels are very "active". I cut all fats, I'm only eating grilled chicken, boiled rice and a bit of cream cheese, but no improvement. Originally my GP said it was just gastritis and prescribed Lansoprazole (30mg in the morning), it seemed to work for about 4 days but then things got even worse. Not only I have burning but my stools are pale, as if no fat is being absorbed. I lost weight as well, which being very very petite to start with, is incredibly worrying as I have no reserve of fat in my body. I finally managed to get a referral and I should hopefully have a gastroscopy done. I'm terrified something really bad might be wrong with me, I'm a 46 years old female, slim, never smoked, don't drink, I have a ridiculously healthy diet and the blood tests I had last week were all fine. I'm negative to H. pylory. I wonder if it could be just very bad gastritis even though Lansoprazole isn't working, or whether I should prepare myself for some seriously bad news. Any advice/opinion welcome.
