I find it very difficult to relax sometimes - OCD takes pretty much all of my energy and leaves me either stressy or exhausted. I sometimes find taking a hot bubble bath can help, as can listening to relaxing music. Sometimes it can be useful to watch a favourite film or TV programme if I can focus enough to follow it. I have also tried meditation. When all else fails, I try to sleep and escape the thoughts for a bit.

Hi there, I found mindfulness meditation very helpful. There's an online course here audiodharma.org/series/1/ta... which made a big difference for me. It's free too, although you can make a donation.

I too find my OCD totally exhausting, and for a long time struggled to find any relaxation techniques that worked for me. The best and only one that worked for me was my pets. Spending time with them is massively therapeutic, and while I'm practically housebound I am able to walk my dogs because it doesn't have to involve being in public places where there are lots of contaminated surfaces or people. When I feel like my head is going to explode with my OCD thoughts I hook a lead on one or two of my dogs and head out for a brisk walk or run. I guess another added benefit of this technique is that it actually gets me out too, which is something my mental health team have been encouraging.

If you don't have your own pets, maybe a neighbour or friend has a dog they would be happy for you to walk?

Thank you all for your useful and helpful suggestions. I will take it all into consideration. Thank you. I am constantly working through it all the time and trying to control to the best I can. I have had this condition for many years and I'm determined to overcome it as I want to be happy and mind free from it. I cant wait for that day where I feel at peace in my mind.
