Help!!
Hi caz. When I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis a few months ago the consultant advised swimming - which I don’t do - walking - which I DO do, and to follow the advice of Arthritis Now the charity. Go to their website.
Also, assuming you’re in the UK, your local authority should be offering the sort of weight loss programme you need. Go to their website.
I was told the same as Happyrosie. Walking is a good exercise unless it causes pain but swimming is the good because it exercises your whole body and the water support your body whilst you're doing it. It also increases your strength and stamina.
Can you walk?
Sorry I just read the walking part. Perhaps try a longer, faster pace, or more strenuous course. Walking is great. Swing your arms and that gets ur heart rate up. Also I have been doing a lot of push mowing.
Thanks for your advice, As i have a lot of pain in left hip, bottom of foot & ankle walking is a very rare occurrence , but i do try when i can, ill push my wheelchair with water flowers clothes up a slight incline in cemetery to go to mom.
Hi caz1967.
Guessing, after all this time, you've already been on your holiday?
Anyway, if you're still interested in exercise for weight loss, maybe try swimming/walking in a heated swimming pool? (I'm not a fan of swimming but getting in a heated swimming pool is the least painful exercise option for me.)
I know some pools have a hoist/lift to safely help people into the pool.
Simply walking laps in the pool could be a good start. And maybe all you would need to, or can do.
