Hi there,

I'm afraid I'm rubbish at remembering the precise names of different forms of yoga I've tried. But I did go to a strenuous yoga class before diagnosis. I'm sure it helped strengthen some muscles but the instructor urged me to put quite a lot of strain on my knees which I now realise was not helpful and may have contributed to joint damage.

I'd recommend getting some advice about what you should and should not do from a Physiotherapist before starting any new form of exercise. And if you do decide to go for it have a word with the instructor before you start - you'd think that trained instructors would have some understanding of conditions that affect joints but that's not always the case.

Exercise is good, and it really helps me, so I do all sorts of things but since I HATE heat then Bikram yoga is not for me! Like Luce says you have to be a bit careful about what you do, especially if you have active inflammation it's important not to strain the joints too much. But apart from that then if you enjoy something then try it very gently and just listen to your body and stop if it hurts at all. Also, build up slowly and don't do too much at once especially to start with.

The thought of doing any kind of exercise in a hot room sounds like hell to me so I've not tried it.
