Anyone find Yoga helpful

Hi. I have been diagnosed with RA for last 10yrs. Have had good and (very) bad periods. I have just started doing yoga, having previously avoided it- I was too paranoid about joining a class and not being able to do everything. Although I can't do everything I am really enjoying it. I was wondering if anyone had been doing it for a long time and seem any benefits with their RA?

My Dr also suggested Yoga. I haven’t tried it yet. I’m still working and by the time I come home I’m wiped out. I know I need to take the time for myself and I will get there one day.

Let me know if you feel it benefits you!!

MY DIL teaches yoga and it is very good but tell your teacher as she must be made aware of any limitations. The DIL does Ashanta, Hot and SUP.

Yes, yes, yes. 👍👍

Don’t need to be concerned with ability to do everything, slow_swimmer. 🧘‍♀️ 🤸‍♀️ 🙏

It’s in the trying that we benefit. 😌

(Being able to ‘do everything’ is merely a target 🎯 / intention — a nice goal 🥅. )

Doesn’t matter if we achieve goal or not, because it’s ‘in the trying’ that counts. ☺️

Found the brief yoga video clip within andyswarbs video presentation ( healthunlocked.com/nras/pos... ) eye-opening & inspirational. Maybe you might too, slow_swimmer (🐌 🏊‍♀️)?

Before I was sick, I used to go for yoga classes 3 to 4 times a week. When I was sick, I couldn't do yoga at all. Knowing yoga is good for my recovery, I tried each time when I got stronger. Unfortunately, I could not do any post too.

I didn't give up, I continue trying. I did the yoga at home since I already knew what to do and I couldn't do at all. I had been doing daily exercises to build my strength and to ensure my joints were flexible again.

After many months of trying, I finally managed to do a simple post slowly. Eventually, when I tried hard enough, I slowly able to do more and now I have no issue to do most of the basic posts.

It helps me to continue to maintain my flexibility and strength.

Yes I do yoga. My teacher is brilliant & tells us to only do what we feel comfortable with. So we all have our own limits. I find it beneficial. Give it a go

I couldn't take to yoga, but started Pilates instead about 3 years ago and find it a real benefit. I can really feel it if I miss a week....and seems to have helped a lot with back and knee pain.

I think anything that keeps you moving is fine. I certainly couldn't get up and down from floor...I'm so stiff. There is a yoga class in village for those with more limited flexibility, so I may give that a go.

I love swimming and go once or twice week. I also walk dog twice a day.

Enjoy your class. I'm sure it will be hugely helpful.

I started Pilates and really enjoy it plus I feel the benefits in as much as my range of movement, core strength and stamina have all improved.

I started out not doing everything, my teacher is super and either gave me a different move or I just did as much as I could. Over time this increased and I can do the same as the others now 😀

There is a class locally that does ‘chair Pilates’ for those unable to get down on the floor.

It’s great for the body, but also the mind too.

I do a seated Pilates class on a gym ball as I can't get up from the floor. It is great for me and we all have different problems and our tutor who is a Physio adapts the exercises when necessary.

Yes, Bikram (hot) yoga really helped me. At first I couldn't do some of the poses when joints were inflamed but sticking with it eventually helped. I think that sweating out toxins in hot yoga made me feel better and joints improved after a few weeks of going 3 times a week to yoga.

I used to do yoga many years ago and found it helpful. Then couldn’t do it so I found tai chi. Two new knees later I have gone back to tai chi and qi gong. Found it very gentle and helpful.

I don't like going to a gym to exercise. I use "Gaia.com". It has every level of yoga and Pilates. Meditation, etc. There is a segment called "yoga everyday" that are 15 minute sessions. I try to do the 15 minute sessions and sometimes actually fit in longer ones because I love yoga.

I did yoga for years before my diagnosis. I would be very sad if I couldn't do it at all.

Yoga has helped me. Had RA for 30 years. I go to a gentle yoga class, only do what my body will let me do.

Yes Yoga is good - just having something that gets you out of the house is also good x

if your not able to do the regular yoga try chair yoga, it is very relaxing and gives you the support to do it from the chair and also will strengthen the core muscles . A good yoga teacher will tell you to do what you can and not expect you to do all the moves. That is the beauty of yoga is differs in many ways.
