Yes I agree with you but the world isn't a fair place of course although we should always aim to make it fairer if we can. I grew up with 2 profoundly deaf sisters and they are complete stars and have never considered themselves to be disabled although deafness affects communication enormously so it really is a huge disability. I thought shops had to come into line with current guidelines, is this just new shops?

sandra.

I so agree with you Emma. It is the 21st century and we are supposed to have Accessibilty rules and Equality in all service providers.

But even now a restaurant near me has opened this year, and the access is steep stairs up to the restaurant, and no lift!

I wish there was a way to name and shame all such new places. They shouldn't even be allowed to get planning permission.

It will become more important as the population ages, the grey pound is waiting to be spent but many of the people with money to spend will be creaking and unable to climb stairs!

Rant over!

Before I had to give up work, I ran an "in-house" newsletter for my disabled colleagues. It was called "Enabled" and I gave away all the secrets of how to get fair treatment, equal access, how to start the "Grievance Procedure" and all sorts of other hints and tips. Where to get grants for equipment and what our Employer was obliged to do for us by law. So I felt I made a contribution even though I was too ill to work anymore!

Good luck with your blog Emma!
