Thank you everyone who replied to my question about methotrexate dosage and weight. My situation is that I weigh 45kg and have been on 10mg a week for years. I've been suffering badly for quite some time now and think that the methotrexate has possibly stopped working. I understood from a rheumatologist that I've had for a very long time (and who has just retired) that for my weight the dose couldn't be increased more than two or three mg and that wasn't going to make a difference. A new rheumatologist has put the dose up to 15mg per week but obviously that's not a lot compared with many people. I live in France and thinking could be different. It has helped a lot to have your replies, so many thanks again.

I was on 15mg but still in a lot of pain so my doese was increased to 17.5mg which has been working brilliantly, so 2-3mg can make a huge amount of difference. I understand the starting dose is usually 15mg. Maybe your old consultant wasn't as up to date with newer thinking 🤔 Hopefully the higher dose sorts you out 😀

It does sound as if other treatment should be considered. Obviously with your below average weight dosage needs to be adjusted. But if methotrexate isn't working there are lots of other choices. Have a look at the treatment pages on the NRAS website and discuss with your consultant.

Yes, I will do that. I've been on methotrexate for many years, just a pity I'm having these problems now.

I weighed 50kgs & was on 25mg per week very successfully for years & my weight was never mentioned.
