Has anyone suffered this through having RD? What’s to do? Will physio help?

Hi. I don’t think I have had the same issue, but I would say that physio is helpful for RA. The best has been hydrotherapy. NHS allows 4 sessions, and I have since kept going with the exercises on my own. You need a warm pool, which the hydrotherapy team were able to give me local recommendations for - the main public pools are too cold. I also find the sauna helps.

I have OA in my fingers, and had wax baths of my hands by the physio. This eased the stiffness, albeit not long term.

Hope this helps and you can get the right help to ease the pain

This was one of my first RA symptoms. It was awful. I couldn't sit down for more than a few minutes. It wasn't until my whole body decided to seize a few weeks later that I went to the GP and was quickly diagnosed with seropositive RA. I was given Naproxen to help until I could get the formal consultant's diagnosis and start taking MTX - it did nothing. When I first saw the consultant, he wanted further tests done before giving MTX and so gave me a short course of prednisolone, 4 week 20mg tapering to 5mg, to help in the short term. That completely stopped the Coccydinia and while all the other symptoms came back after the steroid course finished my tail bone was at least no longer a problem. I occasionally get a very mild ache there now I'm on MTX but it's nothing like it was. All that to say that perhaps a short dose of steroids is needed to knock it on it's head (or tail 🙂).

That’s really helpful. It’s for a friend of mine who’s really suffering with this atm. She’s going to ask about steroids.

Thankfully with all the aches & pains I have this isn’t one of them.
