I suffer from dry mouth and my dentist prescribed me some toothpaste and a mouth spray but the effect of the spray is not lasting. Can anyone suggest any supplements that might help at all? When my mouth is really dry is cracks at the sides which is quite painful too

Dry mouth!
Maybe have another word with your dentist as there may be something else they can recommend.
Hi Gillian. I suffered badly from both dry eyes and dry mouth for a couple of years around the menopause. I tried all sorts of sprays etc for the mouth but none really worked and some were vile. The best thing I found during the day was regular small sips of coconut water. And at night I opt for xylimelts (slow-release xylitol tablets that stick to your gum). You can use the xylimelts during the day as well, but they leave a slightly sweet, sticky feel, so I mostly used them at night. The only time I used them during the day was if I was expecting to talk a lot, as this dries your mouth even more. Happily for me, both the eyes and the mouth are now much better, although there is still some residual dryness. Looking back through your posts, I spotted one about watery eyes. This can be (bizarrely) a sign of dry eyes. If you still have both, it might be worth asking your GP about Sjogrens syndrome (especially if you are not menopausal). I believe there is medication that can help with Sjogrens.
I bought my last lot of xylimelts from Dental Direct - they were cheaper than Amazon at the time. Hope you find some relief
Thanks for posting this, along with the replies, its give me some ideas to try.I've had a dry mouth for a while now- its particularly bad at night. Unfortunately I can't get a dentist appointment until July as its not an emergency as such so its good to know there are things out there 🤗
Hi, I suffer with dry mouth sometimes can hardly speak so dry 😝 suffer with sores on my lips because of it. Doctor prescribed Salivix spray, or Glandasane spray, both are very good usually use them at night when I wake. I sip on fizzy water in the day find that helps from to keep my mouth from getting too dry. Have tried all sorts xylimelts. Salivix pastilles, etc. but have found the sprays the best so far. Hope you find some relief 🤗
Hi we use a mouthwash and a gel called biotene for our patients they find it helps.
I have had dry mouth issues for years. I seen an Oral Medicine Consultant, who after ruling out sjorgens, prescribed a mouth wash called Biotene moisturising mouthwash. I also use the Salivix pastilles when out and about. My dentist advised to use the mouthwash regularly throughout the day, but it’s awkward to carry around. I keep a water bottle by my bed to sip at overnight. I find when I’m in situations where I’m talking a lot, it feels like sandpaper and my tongue sticks to my top palate. Would love something that’s longer acting and discrete to use when out.
I have reflux issues and was told my doctor to take Gaviscon Advanced at night before bed. It works so well. I used to wake up with a completely dry mouth, not any more.
