Who is carrying on with Xmas plans as before?

Hi guys and girls,

Just wanted to pick your brains on how many of you are carrying on with Xmas with family or friends you don't live with? Have you been spooked? Are you unphased? Or just unsure like me :/

If you don't want to elaborate, a YES, NO, or UNSURE will do. :)

Thanks in advance.

I am still shielding still (Rtx/no antibodies vaccines) so it’s me and my hubby.

I’m in a very similar situation to Nk except no hubby! I had hoped to be at my daughter’s for Christmas lunch but as they have mixed with all in sundry last weekend I’m thinking I had now better not go. 😢

I'm seeing my daughter, SIL and two grandsons on Christmas eve, before they meet up with the rest of the family on Christmas day. We are all doing LFTs before meeting. Christmas day is just my partner and myself.

My brother and I only. I have retuximab on 23rd. I had two separate friends over on two different days last week, socially distanced in my house, both masked FFP3 and window open near my friends.

No, our son was going to come up to visit us but as he lives in London, is in a bubble with a couple of kids and we’ve decided much as we’d love to see him, at the moment it’s probably not worth it. ☹️

I had Christmas alone for the first time ever last year but will be seeing family this year. It’s a 4 hour journey via train/tube/bus but I’m not missing out again. I’ve had 3 jabs and getting the 4th tomorrow, so feel I’ve done all that can. I work in the NHS and have been seeing patients since July so if I can do that I can see my family at Christmas. We are all doing lateral flows to be cautious.

I agree, if I’d been seeing a string of patients every day since July I’d be seeing my family too. Have a wonderful time.

My son is joining us for Christmas ( ive 2 other sons who live at home) . He has been isolating this week, he works from home so easy to do this . He has taken a lateral flow every other day as well . My sister is travelling to London by car to stay with her daughter and family, they are all taking pcr tests before they meet up , which is a great idea !

I don’t feel very Christmasy but it will be lovely to spend time together, play some board games , watch a movie and eat turkey sandwiches .

Merry Christmas 🤶🏻☃️🎅🤶🏻❤️

OH and I took the decision last week to lock down as far as we are able. I had f2f Rheumatology appt today, he is having a tooth removed on Thursday but that is it. WhatsApp, Zoom & FaceTime for us again this year until we know more about what is going on with Omicron.

Was visiting and staying with two sets of relatives over this week, both with teachers a 3 kids all at different schools. One house would have lots of other people in too. cancelled it all and we are meeting on the motorway to exchange gifts ☹

We’ve all decided to have normal Christmas 8 adults and 5 children. We’ve all agreed to do lateral flow before we start. All coming to our house at 2.00 for present opening and bubbles. A couple staying in the spare room the rest walking home after. 🤞🤞🤞Hope all goes well. Have a lovely Christmas everyone. 🎄🎄🎄🥂🥂🥂

I will be with son and daughter-in-law Christmas day. Both work for public sector and partly from home. Have to take regular LFTs. I'll take one as well before I go there.

Last year we declined Xmas with son and family as we hadn’t had vaccines. This year we have had 3. We will all take test that morning. On Boxing Day we will have tea with 2 sisters. This morning hairdressers called to cancel our appointments as his live in girlfriend tested positive so that’s one appointment out.We just think we have to go on living but take precautions of not going in very crowded places , wash hands, wear masks, and sanitise

Good morning, I don't really do christmas as it's not a happy time for me and I am an atheist, currently harder as I have been advised not to drive and no-one to help me. Hopefully next year I will be driving , helping out at various places as a volunteer and trying to find some christmas cheer. Greetings to all and I wish you well.🐕🐈🦄

I don't do Christmas anyway - too complicated with three lots of families from three marriages! Bound to upset someone if I go to one and not another. So I spread it out and see some before (which I was able to do) and some after, which has now been translated into Zoom not F2F.

I am really worried as my two sons and 6 grandchildren between them wants my husband and I to meet up Christmas eve, Christmas day and boxing day that being my elder sons birthday. However, as with all of us we struggle to make them understand the immuno situation being on methotrexate. We spend a lot of time in lanzarote, before brexit, so hence the meet up is more of an issue. Sorry to moan but its good to get it off your chest!! There is no answer as my husband will not go if I decide to stay at home. Happy Christmas to you all and hopefully a better new year.

We thought we would have a "normal" Christmas this year with our 3 children and their spouses plus one grandchild, who all live a few hours away, coming to visit us in our small town and staying for a couple of days. All were vaccinated, and hubby and I had our 3rd jab.

But omicron is suddenly exploding in Canada, and my youngest daughter and her spouse, who both work in restaurants, now have it. They need to quarantine at home and their workplaces have been closed. We will do zoom for Christmas with them. We still plan to have the rest of the family, who will have lateral flow tests, but not sure what the next few days will bring,

Oh noo!

Elizabeth Sorry to hear that your daughter and spouse have covid, and at the worst possible time. Thank you everyone for replying to my post and sharing. We were planing a normal but small-scale Xmas until yesterday.

My sister-in-law has just now come down with something sounding suspiciously like covid. She needs to get a PCR test done as LFT are only for asymptomatic cases, and are inaccurate for ppl with any cold-like symptoms(not a lot of ppl seem to know this shockingly)So all bets are off at the moment. I'm ok with just having me and my husband at the dinner table again this year, Worse things have and will happen, it's not like it's the end of the world as we know it.....hehe!
