Strange that CAB can’t be more helpful. Gov.uk have links to benefit calculators which may help.

Thank you 😊

Universal credit is means tested, so based on your circumstances such as whether you work, your income generally, and any savings over a set threshold of £16k, including the circumstances, income and savings of any partner if you’re living with another person as part of a couple. The benefits calculator at Turn2Us is extremely comprehensive and, from previous personal experience, pretty accurate as a guide to which benefits you’re entitled to and how much, including legacy (old style, separate) benefits if you live in an area not yet under UC:

benefits-calculator.turn2us...

I get universal credit, but on the basis that I’m a full time carer to my disabled 13 yo and receive carers allowance. I know the situation with ESA and UC has changed as a result of Covid, particularly around making new applications.

Thanks Ajay

Remember that many of the CAB are volunteers and have variable expertise and may still be in training. Don't be hard on them. They have to learn about the complex system too.

Have you also applied for PIP which is not means tested but based on your health?

Not what you're looking for?

Hi all, thanks for all your responses and advice and friendly welcome. I’ve not been online much....
