Hi I have psoriatic arthritis. My doc has put me on Pregablin 3 days ago for the constant pain in my arm and shoulder.Have to take just one at night.was on just dihydra-codeine and paracetamol but just wasn't helping my pain.My question is ,has anyone else been put on this drug and can you tell me your experience?A few things worry me,they are very addictive and a devil to get off of ,also is it early days for it to be effective ?as it only makes me sleep but pain still there.
Hope you are all staying safe and may this virus hurry up and do one.

Yes for Shingles for nearly a year because of post Shingles pain and my God that hurt. Pregabalin was great , yes it is addictive but I came off slowly and was no worse than coming off steriods. I did not put on weight my GP pointed out as I'd read about addiction that it really wasn't important as it worked to resolve pain issues so do that, then worry about coming off.
I was on them for a year and came off them once I started my MTX as the Consultant said to me they do not work for RA pain but can help with OA pain which I have as well but since now on MTX I do not take them. I found I cut down quite easily and no issues. Also they do take a while to work and though they were better than amtripline I still had pain. I do have a high tolerance to drugs though.
Remember we are all different so if after a month or 2 you feel no difference, it will be worth talking to your GP.
I was on gabapentin and then pregabalin for a short period of time before my diagnosis. Neither agreed with me nor helped the pain I was experiencing. I found voltarol and low dose prednisolone to much more effective and without side effects.
Unfortunately I cant take the tabs as they affect my tummy also I have a heart condition that wont allow me to take them. The gel does give me some relief in the shoulder joint and tissue surrounding
Work for me! Now I get a decent nights sleep. Haven't had to keep increasing the dose after initially finding the right dose for me. I haven't put on weight! I hope they work for you.
I've been on pregabalin around 5 years, for OA though not RD. I tried gabapentin first but that wasn’t helpful for me. I started on a low dose & had reviews with my GP, increasing it until I found the correct dose for me, 150mg morning & evening. It can be an effective med for many, can take a week or two to notice it's efficacy & can cause some issues initially. My h was prescribed it but couldn’t tolerate it, but he is sensitive to pain relieve generally. He didn’t have a good experience with it, told to stop it by a locum GP, no taper, not good, so he had to go back on it & taper off slowly. So, yes, you could consider withdrawal symptoms as addictive, it's your body getting used to the med, so you do need a taper plan if it doesn’t suit you, but thinking positively you won't need to concern yourself right now about that.
Thankyou so much everyone for your replys, you have put my mind at rest.I have to admit they do give me a good nights sleep especially when taken with the codeine, paracetamol and the MTX ,but I am still getting a lot of pain in the day ,so maybe I will ask if a dose to be taken in the day would be helpful .
