Oh now swelling coming back in my knee please no ster... - NRAS
Oh now swelling coming back in my knee please no steroid injection to joint Tomos I'll faint such a baby
I've had it done loads and if wasn't bad!! I had a nurse good my hand as I was so worried but it was alright really !!!! Feels much better when the fluids out !
I've had it done a couple of times and I reckon it's your brother that's a baby....it's not horrendous just a couple of seconds that's over by the time you say ouch! And the relief afterwards is great.
Knee steroid injection veteran here too! Make sure they spray the knee nice and cold with the cryo spray and keep as still as you can and it will all be over in a few seconds. Not an ideal thing any of us want to have done but for me the benefits are exceptional so I don't mind. It will make you feel so much better. If you do have it done be sure to keep your knee immobilised and feet up for 24 hours after. If you do this the injection ynds to last longer and work more effectively. Only bathroom and essential things allowed like quickly make a cuppa but I usually make a flask in the morning before I go have it done. Sandwiches too. Good luck.
I don’t mind needles but I find steroid injections into joints make me a tad queasy. Ask to lie down with your head flat. Don’t look and don’t rush when you get up. Good luck!
I asked the consultant if he minded if I looked as he drained the fluid from my knee as I had read that it reduces discomfort if you watch ....he said that was fine with him. It was very interesting.
I’ve had my knee drained twice and it was such a relief to see the amount of fluid taken out and my knee felt great.
The consultant did say that his male patients tended to faint! Perhaps your brother is in that category!?!
Really hope all goes well for you and that your knee feels better soon.

Don't be afraid. I've had it done twice now and the relief I got afterwards was amazing! Felt like a new woman! Hope it goes ok. Mhairi
Not horrendous at all - uncomfortable for a few minutes but the end result makes a lot of difference. I am one for looking at what they are doing also. Don't rush to get up when they have finished and only do the bare minimum for 24 hours at least to give it chance to work in the area needed.
I agree with all the above. Ive had fluid removed from knees, steroid injections into knees and elbow. The momentarily ouch! (at its worst) is so very worth the pain relief and mobility afterwards. Good luck. ☺
I haven’t had a knee steroid injection but I do get my shoulder injected. I feel pressure and it’s a tad uncomfortable but definitely not painful
First time I was fine and the injection gave great relief.
Last time I got faint and had to lay down. Injection this time didn’t seem to do much at all for me. Not sure why.
Hi Jane it's not that bad .They give local jag first ,just a slight nippy feeling but you don't feel the steroid injection. It'll be pretty bruised for a while though. No pain no gain I'm afraid 😉you'll be fine honestly😊
Hi just got back from hospital it was horrendous like I thought it would be no local jab first just straight to steroid injection hurt like hell. She drew off six lots of fluid first then steroid into the knee. Then sent me off to another room for steroid into my bottom as no way I could stand that needle into my left wrist/hand. I've just been sick from the worrying/stress of it all. I'm off work again now for another few days hoping to go back Thursday then more bloods to be done Friday an oh the joys of RA and flares 😩
All the best to you all Janet x x
oh Jane that's awful 😖I must have been lucky to get local aesthetic first .Don't have as much pain but it feels weird like its full of air .hard to explain Sorry you had a bad experience Jane .remember to rest it for a few days.☺
Thank you for your kind words means a lot. I've just taken half a sleeping pill to get over the shock of today. Hope to be in the land of nod very soon.
Take care Janet x
