Been told I have Ra and I need 2knee replacements,doe... - NRAS
Been told I have Ra and I need 2knee replacements, does this mean I can't apply for pip anymore, very worried
I have a feeling that you maybe right, because when you have the new knees, you wont, hopefully, be so much pain. I have seen little old ladies walk fine with their new knees, and they think it is wonderful. I have had one total knee replacement, and have been rather unlucky, in that my knee cap slides out of place...I have been told that they could put a button type thing on, to stop the movement. Because my new knee has not lived up to expectations, I won't bother getting my other one done, so the OA will continue to get worse. I have top rate dla, but because my birthday is a few months too late, I will be recalled to have PIP assessment, and because I am breathing, I will probably fail
Hiya Laceygreen. I would think your RD isn't confined to your knees & as such they affect other aspects of your daily struggles. It could be that you get that a lower score on your walking ability when you're fully recovered from your op but when your other limitations are considered they may well counter that score. I wouldn't let it stop you pursuing PIP, you don't get if you don't try & if your total score is borderline you can always appeal.
Thank you lab lover and no more heels xxxx
Hi Laceygreen,
There are two components to PIP : Daily Living component and Mobility component. You can be awarded either or both of these components. Each component is paid at two different rates, standard and enhanced.
I have put a link here for you to our guide to PIP:
nras.org.uk/publications/ho...
However there are basic criteria to applying for PIP:
1. You must be 1-64 years of age when you claim
2. You must have been present in GB for 104 weeks out of the 156 weeks before claiming
3. You must normally live in UK, Channel Islands, Republic of Ireland or Isle of Man
Hope this helps Laceygreen, as nomoreheels says, you don't get if you don't try. Good luck!
Regards
Sally
