Feeling sad for you. I had that experience with friends who avoid or stay away from me now I can't walk with them. My family are better but they do occasionally just get fed up with me being " sick" . Can't blame them really.
Do get the NRAS publication, emotions and relationships, it's so good and makes you look at things differently.
Also I don't know if you feel this but I got a bit of depression when I first got laid off work. I saw my doc and got some tablets and counselling, it was weird that feeling that ok my problems were still there but the weight was off my chest and I understood why I felt like I did and could keep it under control.
If you get a chance you can ing the nras helpline tomorrow their no is on their website nras.org.uk
I hope this feeling lifts for you, it's so hard some days but keep strong. You are not on your own, we are all here and really do know what you feel like. Hugs Ax
Hello
As the dentist used to say are you numb son. In the 50/60s
Yes you say if not life can be very difficult in an uncaring society, we all need to be strong with disability and get support and understanding on sites like this one.
It has now has been over thirty years that I was diagnosed with my condition, we harden ourselves and get on with life.
That does not detract from the loss of movement and pain we all suffer. We are all numb mentally as well as personally the medications can also make you feel that way
One the 24/02 I will be going for my dental sedation, I can never remember If I was numb son or if I have even been chatting up the dental nurse, I loose memories for that day it sometimes feels a holiday from the pains I suffer.even though it may seem to some a hammer to crack a nut, so I will carry on with my conkers in my pockets remembering I have arthritis of the jaw and am petrified of dental pain caused by the dentist who asked me "Are you numb son".
All the best
BOB
Thanks I have had a good cry and am now on the fxxk them stage sorry to be crude xx I am feeling really low but I know I will bounce back ... xxx
Hugs xx
Sometimes I feel the isolation and the misunderstandings and misconception of others as bad as the pain

I know it's tough. Some people just don't get it but others really care. Some of my friends were waiting for me to talk about it rather than asking questions as they didn't know what to say, and others have drifted away which is upsetting. I've really found out who my 'real friends' are. Hope things get better soon. Take care, Fran x
Yes it is a way to sort the wheat from the chaff i suppose xx being off work has made me realise work colleagues I thought were actually friends weren't .. my sister and brother are pretty disappointing though
. Anyway u lot have helped loads thanks xxx
Feeling you, not the best is it? As you say though, this place is better. I for one am so relieved to have found it and each other, such a fantastic support. We're here for you and all the ranting you need to do!
Hi norfolkjo,
You are certainly not alone in using the term invisible which is why our second awareness week (16th-22nd June) will focus on the invisible nature of RA. I'm glad you have found support from the community here but if you ever want to speak to someone directly, give our Helpline team a call on 0800 298 7650.
Best wishes,
Ruth

It is so difficult when family and friends don't understand, especially when they give totally inappropriate advice! In some ways I think it's one of the worst aspects of RA.
Hope you feel better soon. If you want to talk, the NRAS helpline is there to be used. Otherwise, I think most of us have been there! Don't lose heart! M x
