mtx side effects

hello hope everyone is pain free today,just started takeing mtx last night and this morning i feel awful my head feel horrible and feel like in goiing to be sick is that normal side effect and does it effect u straight away? i now it dosent start working for months.

Some people do have side effects with mtx,hopefully it will pass for you.xx

Are you sure about the dose? I take my max only once a week,perhaps the dose is wrong.

Hi i have been taking MTX for a while now and yes i was feeling sick in the beginning but now i am on MTX injections and have no more tummy upsets so it might be worth asking to go on to injecting.

I felt rough for about the first 3 times I took mtx but it soon settled down. I found that drinking plenty of soft drinks helped. Also my folic acid was increased from 1 day a week to 6 days and that helped a lot. Hope you feel better soon.

thanks guys in a abit of apanick was i meant to take folic acid first before takeing mtx? i thought u had to take folic acid 2 days after u take mtx?

We all seem to get told different things about folic acid but generally we shouldn't take it on the same day as mtx. If you're unsure you could call your specialist nurse. x

i went to the doctors and forgot to ask her this cos i thought i did it right i may have to ring the doctors again i just hope it isnt harmful to take mtx first its always a worry when u put on somthing new x

Hi there I felt groggy straight after the methortexate and still after 6 weeks feel sick everyday. I take 5mg of folic acid every day other than the metho injection day. I'm going to see if I can have an anti sickness tablet too help see me through this sickly feeling good luck prairie x

Sorry I forgot to mention make sure you are on the correct dose as when I was on the tablets they had me on 25mg and the consultant said that was far too high for my body weight to tolerate that strength. Now I'm on 10mg injection but I still have that sickly feeling like I did taking the tablets...?..take care x

hi prairie ,i have quite alow dosage at the moment i heard alot of people go on a iinjection cos the tablets make them feel sick ,i am feeling abit better now but this morning was awful.hav eu been in the injection long hopefully it work out for u and u feel better x

I feel rough on MTX for the first 9 weeks, but it did then wear off and has been fine since. So do try to hang in there as if it works for you it's brilliant at getting the RA under control. Polly

I found when i first started i was getting a lot of side affect, They decided to increase my folic acid to early day but not the MTX day xx

If you are on a low dose of mtx then you usually take 5mg folic 2 days afterwards

I take my MTX around 7 in the evening so most of the nausea is while I am asleep. The folic acid can be taken 24 hrs after the MTX. I find eating reduces the nausea....especially chocolate!
