Had ra nearly ten years now hospital doctor thinks elbow needs replacing and ankle joint ain't got too young for this operation
Hi, replacement joints can be a good way to relieve pain. I had my right shoulder replaced when I was 40 and have recently had the same shoulder redone and am only 51. I was told this one should last fifteen years this time so will need it doing again at some point. The joints have really improved so if you need a joint now I would say go for it whatever age . Good luck.
Yes, definitely go for it! I had both hips replaced in 1991 when I was 35 - the left one is still going strong, the right one had to be replaced again in 2008 (a bigger job!) so not bad going. I had both knees replaced in 1996 - they're still good. Had elbow replaced in 2005 - still okay. Now I know I have to have both shoulders and other elbow replaced - and will go for it.
