Protein in urine was high

Hi. So I had been noticing foamy urine for about few years but nothing very consistent for me to worry about. I finally decided to go get checked out. My creatinine level was fine. Protein in my urine was 187. My doctor said the other kidney levels looked fine so he will keep an eye on it on my physical. Keep in mind my dad had kidney issues. I work out and lift weights. I stopped taking protein shake but I still get foamy urine once or twice a week. What can I do? Any suggestions. Will appreciate it.

Get a copy of your blood work. What is your GFR, Bun, Creatine? Are they all in the normal range? Get a referral to a urologist too. Keep on asking questions.

Creatinine 0.82, Bun 11, GFR black 136 , GFR other 117. They are all in normal range. But I know that the protein shouldn’t be passing through urine. There has to be something wrong with my kidney. It might be on the initial stage and I want to minimize the damage. What do you recommend I do? See Nephrologist?

What does your GP recommend? Not sure what to say because your kidneys are working fine. I'd keep on pressing my GP for answers.

PCP said to keep an eye on it during the annual physical. I rather not get it worse is what I am worried about.

Just ask him to check it in a month. It could be just temporary due to strenuous exercise, dehydration or minor infection. Have a list of questions when you go in. Remember they work for you.

when you noticed the foam, had you been on any medication or antibiotics? Had you had surgery or infection of any kind? I’d see a Nephrologist.
