With hindsight I was too active after the surgery and this resulted in a hernia developing along the original incision years later. My transplant team had me hold off for a length of time and it was not unusual while coaching little league I would duck under the bleachers to pop the hernia back in. While funny this is not advisable and I probably should have been more proactive but my team liked to avoid surgery if other options were available. As a case in point I still have my very obvious fissure after almost 40 years. The hernia surgery went well and when active at the gym there are times I can still feel the scar but it is holding based on numerous Cat Scans in the area of the kidney. Also, the transplant team did not want me going to a local doctor and had a final approval of the surgeon that did the repair. That repair was 20+ years ago and all is well with both. Hope this helps, stay safe.

The mri should be helpful, the colonoscopy can be draining no pun intended. so you will want to stay as hydrated as you can and on the way to the appt drink gatorade if it is allowed. That will help. Nice to know it was not just my kidney guy who wanted to avoid surgery. I finding thats not uncommon, but you do need to let them know how much it is bothering you as some might be okay to avoid surgery, but most do get worst overtime and can cause complications if nothing is done. Lets hope the mri paints a clear picture for both of them to get you to the right outcome. Good luck

I developed an incisional hernia in my transplant incision. My transplant is on my R side. The hernia developed right at my waist line. Is a difficult spot because stress is put on it every time I bend. It developed 13 years after my transplant. I had it repaired the 1st time with an open procedure. I had more problems with it and 2 years later I had it repaired a 2nd and final time. This time it was a laparoscopic procedure. Mesh was used and now has grown in with the rest of my tissue. I have no more problems.

Be proactive and get it taken care of. I had an ultrasound and then MRI to get the diagnosis of incisional hernia. I would advise that you get it taken care of.

Good luck and stay safe!
