I had my transplant (4 years ago) on April 13. I went back to work, part-time on June 3. It depends on your body, you, and your transplant team. If you have long-term disability, I think it's up to 3 months, but don't quote me. I'm glad I went back when I did, even if it was only part time. I pushed to go back to work early.

In class we were told if you are on Social Security for End Stage Kidney Disease as the only cause, you have 2 years post transplant and then are expected to be able to support themselves. I would talk with the transplant team social worker. Best of luck.

Once u get on disability as long as your condition stays the same you stay on it until retirement age. Then it switches over to SAN.

I hope this answers your question.

I got my transplant from a living donor in 2009 I have had continuous issues with chronic kidney infections, reflux, and chronic rejection.. I have never been able to go back 😟 honestly everyone and situation is different so don't give yourself a set timeline and just always be prepared to go with the flow of whatever happens. I've spent the past 9 years in and out the hospital every month a couple repair surgeries to the ureter the whole pop right back up did not happen for me at all, I know some who did very well others who have had just as hard of time.. but regardless I will say it beats dialysis even at it's worse! Best of luck to you and I hope your recovery story is a successful one 🙏
