Here is a link to Mayo Clinic article with explanation of swelling of hands and feet connected to Chronic Kidney disease. Since other possible causes it is best you contact your Doctor for a diagnosis. mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

hmm you have to look at blood work and urine analysis before a dignosis is made. Although swelling of hands face and leg are common ith CKD but does not mean you have CKD such as swelling of leg may be related to heart and swelling of hands may be related to allergies etc. So talk to your Dr about it

I was diagnosed at 3b too but now at 2 so the Dr you should be talking to is a cardiologist because at this stage it is a signal of heart disease especially atherosecerosis. If you do things that will benefit your heart you egfr will increase and it is not necessary to cut out all meat either but to be mindful, Also ask him how much water you should be drinking and stay within it. it is not the more the better because drinking too much will also make your kidneys work very hard to get rid of excess water and your cells will start swelling so will vital organs like heart and the brain, take care and feel better soon.

If your Neph told you to speak to your PCP, then the Neph does not think it's kidney related.

It can be from many things including food allergies, or too much sodium in your diet making you retain fluid.

Make an appt. and talk to your PCP.

The neohro is not concluding it is not the kidneys- he is wisely letting an internist assess all organs & causes first & then will provide a nephrologist consult if kidney disease appears present. There may be heart, lung, & circulation concerns to be addressed & a full internist workup gets the most salient causes addressed & treatment started with a CBC & metabolic panel. Without labs & all systems checked with a full workup we are just speculating.

Your Nephro must not be a buck catcher. My Neph referred me to a Cardiologist, and a couple other specialists which my PCP failed to do. He is very aggressive with his treatment. I really trust him.

I know PCPs which are usually Internists are supposed to monitor all systems, but some are more adept than others.

That's why I figured the Neph thought it wasn't CKD related, sorry, I was just going by my experiences I guess. I also mistakenly presumed your PCP referred you to ask your Neph about it. Usually I go through PCP unless Neph adds on referrals and tests. Both are pretty good. My old PCP sucked so I recently fired him and got a great one.

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

Now I see you aren't even the top poster. Thankfully my PCP and NEPH just diagnosed my subclavian arterial steal syndrome so I know why I can't think straight as I'm no longer getting enough blood to my brain, I'm not a dumb blonde after all.

Swelling is water retention/ known as edema. It is easily treated but blood labs are needed to find BUN & creatinine, etc. get a full workup of labs, heart, & lungs. Consider two possibilities: kidney or heart. You may be advised to change diet to a whole food plant based diet, reduce meat & dairy, take some lasix to remove water, or receive other treatments. ERs are equipped to handle this & give you a fast assessment or a visit to a good pcp who is knowledgeable about kidney, heart, diet, exercise & circulation. Amlodipine also can cause edema.

Good luck to you I hope the doctor figure it out can be related to kidney disease but can be so many other things . Hope you are getting labs work done soon so they can rule out what it is and what it is not , Prayers lifted for you🙏

Hi. I'm 3a and for the last week I've had stomach swelling/bloating in the afternoons/evening. Did some lab work 2 weeks ago and stable, but they didn't do a comprehensive metabolic panel to measure protein and albumin. I've been on a wacky diet and in need of a renal dietitian badly! I'm afraid I'm not eating enough protein (bloating/swelling is a symptom) because I eat maybe an ounce or two of meat 2-3 times a week. I am not a big eater, no appetite at present (another symptom of bloating/swelling) and it's been hard to eat healthy trying to go meatless. I'm scared of tofu as I've read bad things about it and I can't live on beans. Think I got lectin poisoning from all the eggplant and peppers I was eating as my body just ached for about a week earlier this year. So I'm ordering a cmp test to check protein/albumin online to check and will get a renal dietitian. I don't drink carbonated drinks either.
