my dad has been diagnosed with ataxia, is there any treatment that can help him?

Hi, sorry to hear the news, it is something I haven't heard of but try this link it might give some info.
....has he had his B12 tested and also Iron levels. b12d.org LOW B12 can affect the nerves and has been implicated in Alzheimers/Dementia. Check out Prof Smith on YouTube and his presentation on B12 and Alzheimers. There is also a very good book called - Why Isn't My Brain Working - by Datis Kharrazian. An excellent source of learning how the brain works - also the gut/brain link. Gluten can be a problem for poorly people and the vagus nerve connects the brain and the gut and the two way messaging that exists.... Also in my non-medical opinion it may be worth having the thyroid checked and do not accept a ' normal ' result from your GP. Do your own research on thyroiduk.org .....sadly docs go by the TSH bloodtest which only tells part of the story. Poor thyroid hormones have been implicated in tinnitus and middle ear issues - and over 300 conditions. So good to rule it out. The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland at the front of the neck - and I visualise the wings of the butterfly fluttering to try and balance so many issues in the body.......
