Great question. In fact the million dollar question about whether the new NHS structure will work.

If you accept the view that we are running out of 'health dollars' at the same time the (ageing population etc) is demanding more of them then the only solution can be that the new budget-holders can find better ways to spend public money. And that at the same time innovation makes itself clear to them.

I'm sceptical. Innovation is effervescent across the NHS but it's got a terrible record in scaling and marketing that innovation to organizations like CCGs in th past. But I'm hoping to be proved wrong.

I'm rather sceptical too. But the terrible track record you mention can also be a good thing if you take the learnings from the past.

In any case, innovation is something difficult to achieve in very large organisations. Even more difficult when we talk about very large health organisations....

I don't see any obvious reason why CCGs should be more effective than PCTs at stimulating innovation.

CCGs are on too steep a learning curve with too many budgetary constraints to be able to even think about innovation. Basic service delivery should be all we can expect for the foreseeable.

The CCG were set up by the Tories to privitise the NHS by the back door,my local council doctors are shareholders in different companies as are most of the CCG body are also shareholders in different health companies. The aim is to make you start paying extra for additional services. You cannot trust the Tories/Cameron fiddled his expenses and we never voted for the change
