OK, I'll bite. How DO you tell the difference between a baby head and bum?

Sorry hun, I just assumed you were setting up a joke/riddle, but looking at your post history now I'm wondering if you were asking a serious question about what you're seeing on a scan picture or what you can feel in your bump. Can you clarify exactly what you mean? I probably don't know the answer, but someone else might.

Also, if you feel like sharing, how did it go with the specialist midwife, and are you feeling any better? Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping you're doing well...

I presume you're referring to feeling the baby's movements?

With my first, I couldn't tell until quite late. The only way I knew was that as the kicking and movements got stronger, I could tell which were hand movements and which were feet or knee movements. Once you work that out, you can often work out your baby's preferred position, and know which end is which.

If you're referring to scans, they try to give a clear picture of the face, but the little ones don't always cooperate on the day. My new bubba (I'm 23 weeks) has been camera shy at every appointment. So if it's the scan which isn't clear, take it along to your next midwife's appointment - they'll be happy to explain what they can.

Just found an item on the NCT blog site about getting to know your baby's position so that you can encourage optimal position for birth. nct.healthunlocked.com/blog...

Anyway, it contained the best and simplest description ever of how to tell head from bum. Apparently head is hard and round while bum is soft and round.

Knowing this would have made working it out in my first pregnancy much easier! Still helps to figure out what are hand vs feet, and knee vs elbow movements, but the extra info will definitely help me this time around.
