Crying toddler

I have a daughter who is due to turn 1 on Monday, but she just seems to cry all the time, unless I am in the room with her, if I leave the room (even though she can still see me) she cries, she just never seems satisfied, I feel as though I try everything I can think of to entertain her during the day but nothing seems to work, I am starting to feel so miserable, can anyone help please?

My daughter was very clingy, made worse by the lockdowns. I had to bite the bullet and give her to people which is hard at the minute but I had to break her separation anxiety. She goes to nursery now and grandparents and although she still follows me about at home, she can play or sit in a room without me now x

Thank you for your advice, she does spend time with my mum but its difficult for others to have her whilst in lockdown and the current rules, but will definitely try it when I can. xx

Hi there. I can totally understand. I think lockdown and babies not interacting with others is making them more clingy as they are just used to being with us. My little girl is 6 months . And even if I live her with dad to nip the shops she screams for me. Maybe woth while your little one going to nursery one day a week ? I cant wait for playgroups and baby classes to open again. Its what they need.

Maybe take her to the park and let her have a play there x

I think it will definitely help for her to interact with other children, which she usually does when not in lockdown, but thank you for your advice. xx

Hi, can you get a baby carrier and wear her on your back whilst you do things around the house. It's a normal phase and it doesn't last long... it is so hard though.Big hugs xx

Haha, well we definitely don't want that. I hope you find something that works for both if you xx

My little girl got really clingy for her Daddy rather than for me - it was brilliant hahaha. Just keep reminding yourself it's a phase and it will pass xxx

Oh my god my son did the same at 12 months then got a bit better and now again at 15 months. It does get to me too eventually. I've noticed thou that if my husband takes him first thing in the morning he won't miss me. So I totally recommend that for a break x

I'm a single mum so its difficult but my mum does help out a lot which is a great help for me. xx

Happy birthday to your little one. My boy is turning 1 in a few days and he gets like that sometimes, so he comes with me everywhere and sometimes sits on my lap while I'm working/eating (or rather trying to). Sometimes I have to sit next to him on the playmat while he plays with his toys, he just needs the physical proximity. It's tiring but perfectly normal; and it is healthy for your child to build a strong attachment to you, so I would not discourage it. There is an interesting book by Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Mate discussing attachment in children and adolescents, I have only managed to read 40 pages so far but I am finding it fascinating.

Thank you so much for your advice and the recommendation, I will definitely check that book out, I've been looking for a "new read" so sounds like that could be the one (when I get chance of course) I don't wish to discourage her but its just hard when I'm on my own and trying to cook or clean but I'm sure it will pass as everyone has reassured me. Birthday wishes for your little boy too, I hope he has a great day. xx

Of course, it is super hard. Today my boy was 'on me' pretty much the whole day. I don't know if it was teething or what but he decided he wanted to be held. I felt like I got nothing done (including the cup of tea I started to make at 9.30 am and managed to drink at 2pm) and before I knew it the day was over. I forgot to mention the title of the book, it's 'hold on to your kids'. xx

Ahh bless you, its a struggle to even eat or drink until your little one is sleeping, and the days seem to merge into one before you realise you haven't eaten or drank anything which doesn't help with energy levels. I will definitely give the book a go so thank you again. xx

Try to make room decor, lights more comfortable, dim the lights when its sleep time, no noise of tv, mobile or other gadgets, no loud voices like shouting or arguments near her.Make sure she is well fed as it leads to more comfort for the baby and nappy is changed.when awake try different cartoons, rhymes, toys and observe closely what she likes.

My little ones exactly the same he’s 1 and I can’t walk in the opposite direction from him without tears. It’s v hard but just gave lots of cuddles and now he is starting to play / explore a little bit more on his own. If I’m in the room he only wants me, but he is happy to spend time with dad when I’m not there

Sounds very similar to my situation, she's perfectly fine when others are around but when I'm on my own and I try to cook or clean etc she has a meltdown, just trying to power my way through out, I'm sure it will get better soon, hope so for you too. xx
