Safe to lay in the bath?

Hi,

I’m 20 weeks pregnant. I know it’s really bad to lay flat on your back whilst your pregnant but I’m wondering if it’s okay to lay in the bath, bearing in mind with my back against the bath I’m slightly upright...?

Hi I think baths are ok as long as the temperature isn’t too hot. I know saunas jacuzzis are a no but think a normal bath is ok. People have water births so I can’t imagine that water being cold.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve not had it hot so the temperature should be fine but more wondering about the fact I like to lay in the bath? X

I think in general baths aren’t completely flat Depending on how tall you are and size of bath but I would think a short bath on ur back would be ok.

I had baths and like you say your not lying completely flat plus it’s only a short period xx

Water might take the pressure off your back, aswell I stay in my baths for an hour maybe longer as I struggle with my hips a lot xx

Never heard not lay on your back at all, just not for long periods so like 3/4 hours.

I love a long bath around 1hr/2hr, and I had many of these! Even helped with my contractions before hospital I was in the bath at midnight the day before I went in to have my princess.

I’d say limit your bath to an hour long if your worries that much, and if your that worries ask your midwife/health visitor/GP.

My princess is perfect and I was having a bath every day/2 days max....I like being clean lol...

Don’t worry hun! Xx

You're reclining rather than lying flat in the bath so I imagine it'll be fine. How are you doing? Feeling better? Found out last week mine's a girl (so surprised, I was convinced it was a boy) and can feel her moving now - yesterday she was doing pilates with me, I'm sure!!

Thank you. I’m doing well thanks. Aw a girl, how lovely 💕 We are expecting a boy..which I guessed right 💙 how many weeks are you now? I think I’ve felt some movements. My stomach had like a pulsing sensation over on side yesterday so guessing he had the hiccups x

Aw, congratulations team Blue :) I can just imagine him hiccupping away in there - so cute!!! I'm 20 weeks today - when I saw her last week she was so active, bending and stretching her legs, waving her arms and finally rolling over and turning her back on us - and I couldn't feel any of it!! It must be just when she's in certain positions I can feel her prodding and pushing at me. Anyway, enjoy your bath xxx

Lying on your back is only an issue when your baby is big/heavy enough to squash an artery on something lol. I'm not too clued up on the biology of it, but you can really feel it if it's an issue.

Sometimes I've had to lie on my back due to back problems, but if baby is lying in wrong place, I can feel really out of breath/tired really quickly.

General rule of thumb (thats seen me through no problem!) if you're comfy, you're probably fine 👍

Xx
