Baby's Gender at 20 week scan

Hi everyone, had my amnio test few weeks ago, got all clear results. Had my 20 weeks scan yesterday. The sonographer said its a girl but the baby was lying facing down. All results was normal. Can the sonographer make a mistake by the gender of the baby? Has anyone else faced the same problem.

They can never say 100 percent one way or the other. I have heard where the baby has turned out to be the opposite sex. We had an additional private scan with our son and both sonographers said he was a boy. There wasn't much denying that though. This time we have been told girl by both. I feel like she is a girl but who knows, could still come out a boy 😉.

I agree with KellyTrip , they cant be 100% sure, and my baby did the same thing at the 20 week scan. Due to reduced movement a few weeks ago, I went back to the hospital and they rescanned to check everything, and then the sonographer said it was definitely a girl.

if you want to be sure, like Kelly mentioned, a private scan could put you at more ease. Especially if you are wanting to customise baby things like a nursery or pram.

Was the amino done privately or on NHS? As they should be able to tell the sex 100% from the amino as it is a genetic test

Amino was done in NHS Oldham hospital. As the baby was lying in an awkward position and the sonographer looked bit confused whilst doing the scan. Due to the which we also didn't get any clear scan pictures. Not sure if she checked the reports for the gender of the baby. Well sex of the baby really doesn't matter because we are all so excited as its our first baby
