Okay so I'm a first time mum and totally new to all of this, but I've had a really sore tummy on and off all day. Feels like period pains/cramps. I don't think it's contractions (not that I would know how they feel though lol) but its pretty much there all the time as doesn't go away and come back, but it does start to feel worse then eases off and my stomach gets really hard at the same time. I've also been having lower back pain today and a feeling of constipation. that I don't usually get. Does anyone know what this may be? I've been reading up online and looks like it could be ore labour pains? Has anyone had these and how long do they last?

The important thing to consider & remember here is every woman deals with pregnancy & symptoms in different ways, but it does sound as if your body is either "very closely" preparing for labour to me!

You mentioned that you feel like the pain hasn't gone away but have you had any other signs like loss of mucus plug or water's breaking or anything?

Could well be! The problem with first labours (and possibly second's, I haven't done it yet!) is that these early signs can last flippin ages! It sounds really positive though, and you really will know when those contractions kick in. When the pains start to have a definite start and end you'll know for sure.

If I were you I'd go to bed ASAP, just in case you are starting tonight - you'll be thankful for a few hours kip! Contractions will wake you up if they start to intensify.

If this is it, good luck! If not try to be patient (yeah right, I know you'll be pulling your hair out!) keep us informed :-) x

Yes,

that's good advise to try & get some sleep, as if it is really the start of labour the contractions will wake you up ( for sure)

xx

Could be! U may lose ur plug anytime now too. .. just keep an eye on them contractions and write them down. .. mine started off as period pains for a few hours but my waters did go and then they really started give maternity a call and speak to them and see what they say all the best xx

Thanks for the advice everyone!! My waters haven't broken yet and haven't had mucus plug so no signs of definite labour just yet. The pain in my lower back is really starting to intensify, but I'm going to take your advice and go for an early night, because I am absolutely shattered. I will keep you informed, I hope this is the start of something, can't wait to meet our wee girl :)

U might not havea show or ur waters go till right at the end so keep an eye on the pains take it easy and try and get some rest if contractions become regular have a nice Bath and think when they are 5 mins apart is time to go to maternity x
